Paul's Story
Paul was riding his mother’s motorcycle when he was knocked off by a negligent car driver. He received serious leg injuries and approximately a year after the accident his right leg was amputated. Paul originally instructed local solicitors who started a Court action. Some six weeks before the trial of his compensation claim client was put under immense pressure by his solicitors, and their barrister, to accept an offer from the insurance company of £400,000. Paul was not happy with that offer and following the recommendation of a solicitor acting for a major insurance company, the case was transferred to us. The evidence obtained by the previous solicitors was not sufficient to value the claim and they had not taken into account the full effects upon him of the accident and in particular the likely cost of prostheses. Following adjournment of the trial we obtained a substantial interim payment to enable client to adapt a bungalow, to purchase a suitable car and to purchase three specialist prostheses including one with a silicon cover which replicated his other leg with near identical skin tone, hairs and artificial blemishes. Within nine months of taking over this case we settled the entire claim for £1,000,000 which included £500,000 for the lifetime cost of maintaining and replacing his prostheses which remains one of the highest awards of compensation for prostheses.
